Indiscriminate Reflections

I keep coming back to this picture of the sheep. We were passing through one of the poorer towns on the way to Jerusalem.  Along the highway, one of the sheep wandered onto the road.  We were in a big bus and there were cars coming the other way.  There was nothing anyone could do to avoid hitting the sheep. We all saw it and heard it.  It made us very sad to watch it happen.

I could not help but think about us as the sheep. Many times in lives we wander into areas that are very dangerous to our spiritual well being. We think we know what we are doing but we are so caught up in ourselves we don't see the train wreck that is coming our way. Just like us being disturbed by our bus hitting and killing the sheep, God must be disturbed watching us getting into dangerous spiritual situations that damage or kill our spiritual well being.

West Bank and Samaria

I was reviewing the map and our tour guide was pointing out where the West Bank was and how it was under Palestinian control.  Interestingly, the Samarian region falls in the West Bank. Even in Jesus's time these two areas did not get along.  Recall John chapter 4 when a Samaritan woman came out to the well to draw water and Jesus asked her for a drink. Her response was "how is it that you, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman? "  during the time Jews had no dealings with Samaritans- things haven't changed much in the last 2000 years. Amazing.
